Many theories surround colour a how it is used in art and design and students on this course will cover its many creative, technical, philosophical and scientific aspects. Understanding Colour will give students a great advantage when studying or working in art and design with the ability to understand and apply elements such as hue, tone balance and simultaneous contrast. This course is ideally paired with our painting or interior design courses.
Students will begin with simple exercise in mixing and placing colour using medium such as gouache and acrylic paint, while also developing awareness of the contextual developments in the use of colour throughout history. As students gain competence they will develop more advanced images applying their colour awareness skills to create contrasts and subtle patterns and imply meanings, emotions, thoughts and ideas.
